Did you know...
Windows 11 will not support computers with processors older than Intel 7th Gen, and only supports a handful of newer AMD processors. This means that computers that don't meet these tight specifications will be stuck using Windows 10, which as of October 2025 will no longer be supported and become very prone to cyber attacks. You're left with three options; take the risk, buy a newer machine or get rid of Windows!
What are the benefits of running Linux?
Security
Linux only allows the installation of new software with a password from the user.
There is also less malware designed to attack Linux.
Privacy
Linux providers do not collect user data, unlike Microsoft and Apple.
Speed
Linux will be faster on older computers due to its much lighter resource usage.
Space
Linux is a smaller OS than Windows, taking up only around 8GB of disk space, compared to at least 20GB for Windows.

Which versions of Linux do we suggest?
Linux Mint
Mint is an excellent distribution for Windows users - it feels familiar and easy to navigate. It is based on Ubuntu, the most popular version of Linux. It includes a software library with thousands of free applications to download.
Ubuntu
Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distribution, used by professionals all over the world. Recommended for more advanced users due to its unique layout and advanced security features.
Chrome OS Flex
If you are already a user of Google Workspace, or find most of your work is done in a browser, Chrome OS is the ideal solution for you! It runs very smoothly and is a perfect way to turn an old laptop into a Chromebook.
How does it work?
You will be required to back up any files you wish to keep before we collect your computer. Once your PC or laptop is in our care, we will install your chosen version of Linux and check the functionality of things such as webcams, microphones and speakers if applicable.
We will aim to return your computer to you within two weeks, and you will receive free tech support via email for two weeks following your delivery date. If you wish to switch back to Windows in this time, we will do so for no additional charge.
Please print and fill out this contract before we collect your computer.
Is there anything I should know before switching to Linux?
Yes, there are drawbacks for some users. You will have to learn your way around a new operating system, which could take considerable time if you've used Windows or MacOS for several years.
Certain types of software are not available on Linux. These programs all have alternatives:
Microsoft Office
LibreOffice, OpenOffice and Google Workspace are all free alternatives.
Microsoft Edge
Alternative browser options include Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera
Adobe Photoshop
GIMP, Krita and Inkscape are all free to use and downloadable.
Adobe Premiere
DaVinci Resolve is professional-grade video editing software and available for free on Linux.
